New Canyoneering Bolt Kit & Drill

Rockwells sweet little H3 Rock Drill. The whole bolt kit is just under 7lbs including a extra battery. Pretty hard to beat, one battery will sink 10 3/8 by 3 1/2 in deep holes in sandstone. Many people I have talked to have rock pecker kits which out weigh this powered kit.

This will be part of our new Canyon Rescue Packs here on Sedona Fire's Technical Rescue Team.

Think before you shoot

Probably one of the best Landscape tidbits I have been told or read is to "use your legs". Next time your out in an area where people are taking lots of photos watch how quick people are to take a pic of a Landscape. Generally speaking you have time to plan out your shot. The progression I usually see is the person sees something eye catching and stops immediately and takes a pic. A better way would be after recognizing a photo opportunity take note of where you are then asses your area to look for the best composition. Consider the foreground, lighting and subject. Especially when I am hiking outdoors I look at the topography and think how can I place my self to get the best perspective. Can I scramble up onto the next shelf or walk 100ft more etc. Take some time to walk about looking at the possibilities. Living in Sedona I see too many tourists wielding big high end cameras and I will watch them take those mindless pics. I think many people invest more money into expensive camera equipment and expect amazing pictures. Had they invested that same monies or time into learning technique they would reep the benefits. Like anything take time to think it out and the results will reflect the effort. So again take time to think before you shoot your next photo.

Lava River Tubes

Tonya's Dad & Girlfriend are in town from Michigan and one adventure was heading into the lave river tube outside of Flagstaff. This was an interesting time lapse shot from within the tube. Pretty amazing geologically. It feels like like you are within a animals venous system.

Dusty

Laying down some landscape rock in the front yard and posted the best of the new pics from UN5977.

UN 5977

lots more photos up on the site.....and working on some new pics from UN SUMMIT 5977 which is just northeast of Capitol Butte. It was a blast of a scramble, especially going down as I stayed almost to sunset. Azul was posing for some great "Dog on the Edge" shots.

SIte is coming along.

Bit by bit I am adding more photos to the site from my old hard drives. I will be heading out Friday in search of some new shots. I am undecided as to where I want to go. I am tempted to go on a small canyoneering trip as it has been quite awhile since I have gone. Typing about it it makes it even more enticing. :)

Busy day @ work...

A couple routine medical calls. A very interesting hike out off of Bell Rock which mimicked a call one week ago. The exact location was the same, on the Northeast face which is off the trail making it even more unlikely. The same tib fib fracture and both outdoorsy females by themselves attempting the same 6ft descent down a slick rock shelf. After another small medical call we were returning from VVMC to West Sedona on a detour to pick up extra medical supplies then to return to the Village. Before we got to the Dry Creek bridge we came up on a single vehicle roll over. The patient was bloodied up pretty good and a definite reminder to buckle up. We zipped him over to SEC for a flight to Flagstaff or Phoenix. I hope the best recovery for the old man.

Rock Eating!!

Ronin & I hiked out to Damfino saddle to take pics of Tex, Sadhu, Special John & John. Ronin saw Azul gnawing on her stick and decided he would try some sandstone mmm mmm good. Later he said to mom "mama eat rock". Got a couple great pics of the guys rolling down the saddle into the Hangover trail.

Up and running.

Check...... Check......1...2
